Blog: Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) for the logistics sector | AGILOX

How autonomous mobile robots are transforming an entire logistics operation

In modern production logistics, companies face the challenge of making their processes more efficient, flexible, and resource-saving. The LINHARDT Group, considered the global market leader for aluminum tubes in the pharmaceutical sector and a producer of packaging solutions for everyday products, shows how the leap into autonomous intralogistics can be achieved.
At its Viechtach (Germany) site, the innovative and AI-based X-SWARM Technology from AGILOX was implemented. The result: an impressive success story that combines efficiency, transparency, and future-proofing.

How LINHARDT embarked on the path to autonomous logistics

A company everyone knows, even without realizing it

Volker Rankl, Logistics Manager at the Viechtach site, vividly describes how deeply LINHARDT is embedded in our daily lives: whether mustard tubes, toothpaste, deodorant sprays, or shower gel – chances are high that one of these products is packaged in LINHARDT packaging.
In addition to aluminum and plastic tubes, elegant aluminum bottles, for example for spirits, are now also part of the traditional company’s portfolio.

Why AGILOX? A clear yes to flexibility and user-friendliness

LINHARDT chose AGILOX for good reasons. Particularly convincing was the overall concept of the autonomous mobile robots:

  • User-friendly operation
  • True autonomous driving with swarm intelligence
  • Flexible map updates that can be created easily in-house
  • Simple adjustments such as adding new hall sections, pickup stations, or transfer points
  • Very short commissioning times

These features allow LINHARDT to integrate new areas or adapt processes without external support, which is a decisive advantage in a dynamic production environment.

Three successfully implemented projects at LINHARDT that stand for real process innovation

Aluminum waste disposal – the starting point (2021)

The first project started as early as 2021. After the commercial process, AGILOX went live with the AGILOX ONE in August.

  • Three halls had to be mapped
  • A wide range of routes had to be programmed
  • Over 180 containers had to be reloaded

And yet: after only 1.5 weeks of commissioning, the system was productive.

Transport to shipping packaging

In the second project, LINHARDT relied entirely on the AGILOX OCF, which, thanks to its counterbalance forklift concept and free lift, takes over transport tasks from the shipping area to the staging area in the finished goods warehouse.
The entire commissioning, including planning, took just four days, demonstrating how quickly the OCF could be integrated into this environment.

Fully automated packaging line thanks to Plug & Play

For the most recent and fastest project, we were able to use the experience gained from the first two implementations.
Thanks to prepared data and structures, integration was completed in just one day, proving the effectiveness of the Plug & Play concept.

Seamless SAP integration means a milestone for digitalized logistics

For the third project, the connection to SAP was crucial.
Data communication is handled via the Lobster middleware, which mediates between AGILOX and SAP via web services.

Process overview:

  1. SAP creates the transport order
  2. AGILOX picks up the pallet and delivers it to the packaging line
  3. Parameters such as height, pallet type, or handling unit are checked
  4. If parameters match, AGILOX receives the follow-up order
  5. In case of errors, a processing station is automatically approached

This has created an end-to-end process that works completely digitally, transparently, and with reduced errors. The SAP connection was successfully ensured and continues to operate without issues.

Impressive numbers that speak for themselves

Since the introduction of AGILOX AMRs in 2021, LINHARDT has:

  • transported over 245,000 containers and pallets
  • moved a total of around 23,160 tons
  • covered a distance equivalent to traveling once around the globe

From the recorded success story period of September 2024 to December 2025, these figures increased significantly. Within this period, LINHARDT can proudly state that it has taken its intralogistics to a new level:

  • over 483,000 containers and pallets transported
  • more than 36,500 tons moved
  • 73,000 km covered by the vehicles

These figures show not only the robustness of the solution, but also the high degree of automation and the efficiency gains achieved by LINHARDT with AGILOX.

AGILOX as a driving force in modern intralogistics

LINHARDT’s success story demonstrates how powerful and flexible autonomous mobile robots can be today.
AGILOX convinced the company with:

  • rapid implementation
  • high usability
  • enormous adaptability
  • perfect interaction with existing IT systems

The result is logistics that are not only more efficient but also sustainably future-proof.
